The Most Beautiful Desserts in Amsterdam

Delicious is one thing. But clichés exist for a reason. So yes, the eye wants something too. That’s why these six desserts are not only fantastically delicious, but also the most beautiful around right now.

Jaimie van Heije
Picturesque Ouderkerk aan de Amstel – just outside Amsterdam – is already worth a snapshot in its own right. And Jaimie van Heije hasn’t even touched an ingredient yet. Every season, the chef completely revamps his menu, and every season he adds another little work of art to our culinary gallery. Winter brought the sleek white Mont Blanc dessert; spring gave us the lovely Blossom. We haven’t yet decided which dish will win the beauty prize this summer, but can we place our bets on ‘Fields of Gold’?
&moshik**
Almost every dish that comes out of Moshik Roth’s kitchen is breathtaking, but the dessert of strawberry, hazelnut and foie gras may well be the most beautiful of them all. The menu at &moshik is subject to the season and the chef’s creativity. So whether the butterfly will fly onto your menu is simply a matter of hope. Hoping very hard.

Belvedere Vodka & Conservatorium hotel
When Belvedere Vodka and chef Schilo van Coevorden come together, nothing but magic can happen. And that’s exactly what you can now taste in a beautiful menu with cocktail pairing in the Conservatorium hotel’s Brasserie. Each dish is based on the origins of Belvedere’s premium vodka. And although every plate is worthy of framing, the most beautiful dish keeps you waiting a little longer. It’s the Lemon Colonel; a dessert served in a lemon. Want to see (and taste) it? Then you’ll have to hurry. The limited-edition menu is available to order only in August.
Bord’Eau
Once home to the most photogenic apple dessert, Bord’Eau continues to delight the eye with an entirely new dessert. For the Damascus Rose, chef Bas van Kranen folds 24 individual petals into an edible rose. It’s a little bouquet of beetroot with lychee, olive oil and goat’s cheese.
THE DUCHESS
Actually, everything here is wonderfully beautiful. The building. The digital art. But especially the dessert menu. Its crowning glory is the Chocolate Explosion. A gigantic chocolate egg bursts apart, revealing a flood of chocolate mousse, cookies, chocolates and brownies.

Deer Mama
At Deer Mama, there are no Michelin-starred meals or fine dining, but fantastic vegan fast food that even the greatest culinary critics will approve of. Because at Deer Mama, being both vegan and fast food never means compromising on quality or flavour. And not on looks either. With its plant-based milkshakes and soft serves, Deer Mama pours a fifties diner into a coupe. It’s outrageously delicious and over the top.
And as the dessert of this list: a beautiful odd one out…
020
Yes, for this dish you’ll need to spend a few hours on a plane. Thomas Groot and Richard van Oostenbrugge – you know, the duo behind phenomenal 212* – have opened their latest restaurant, 020, in Curaçao. And it’s not only the incomparable gastronomy of their Amsterdam kitchen that gets a taste of the island vibes. Amsterdam’s most famous and beautiful dish is back too: that aforementioned little apple. The core is apple sorbet and the outside is made of sugar. This time, it comes with a delicious sea breeze.
