The most beautiful rooftop bars in Rotterdam

Rooftop bars in cities are really something I have a soft spot for — and I honestly don’t care which city it is. They always have a certain allure, especially when they’re in cities where there’s plenty to see; and we have plenty of those in the Netherlands. How about enjoying a cocktail while looking out over the Erasmus Bridge, for example? When it comes to impressive views, Rotterdam has plenty to offer.

That’s why I’ve put together a list of the four nicest rooftop bars in Rotterdam for you, which are fun to visit in both summer and winter.

1. Gastrobar Elvy
This rooftop bar is located on top of the Nhow hotel, and you can eat here too. To be completely honest, I would mainly recommend this place for drinks and the view: because when it comes to that, it scores an incredible number of points. You have a beautiful view over the Maas and the Erasmus Bridge, so the views here are truly unparalleled. The great thing about this place is that it opens early (from noon) and stays open until reasonably late (until 11:00 p.m. on weekdays, and until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays); so be sure to go around sunset.

At this spot, you have a view over a completely different part of the port city: the city center. The location is truly ideal too, right next to Central Station. Do dress warmly, though, because the outdoor rooftop terrace in particular is absolutely enormous. That makes this a popular spot in summer, but if you dress appropriately, it is definitely worth visiting in winter too; for lunch or dinner, as they are open all day (with plenty of vegetarian options too — nice!).

3. Teds Rotterdam
Teds now has quite a few locations, including in Haarlem and Amsterdam — so chances are you’ve heard of it before. They are known for their all-day brunch and are open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A brunch isn’t complete without mimosas, so there are plenty of those here too, and at this rooftop location they have plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. It’s also within walking distance of Central Station, yet still somewhat sheltered and it feels like an oasis of calm.

One of the biggest advantages here is that you can still enjoy the sun until late in the evening, which is what they are known for. You can’t really call it a rooftop (since it is definitely not high up), but it does give you a lovely view over the Markthal and the Laurenskerk. The perfect place for a simple but good lunch or dinner during a day in Rotterdam; I really have a soft spot for these kinds of places where you can still find a simple but good tomato soup on the menu and the apple pie with whipped cream is a bestseller.
