The Tastiest from Guus and Dick

Big in stature with a soft G. And with Brussels sprout mash with pork belly, cheese toasty sandwiches, raw beef sausage and piccalilly mayo, and shrimp croquettes from Knokke. These and many more dishes can be found in The Tastiest from Guus and Dick: the new cookbook by Guus Meeuwis and Michelin-starred chef Dick Middelweerd.

We know that Guus can sing a decent tune. But that he is also a professional home cook – who is welcome to come and cook for us sometime – is evident from The Tastiest from Guus and Dick. This cookbook, which he developed together with his friend and Michelin-starred chef Dick Middelweerd from De Treeswijkhoeve in Waalre, contains everything they like to eat. That means more than 70 recipes and a special chapter on mayonnaise. Because, to quote the men: ‘Why not have fries with peanut mayonnaise and lemongrass instead of peanut sauce and mayonnaise?’
Veal chuck with five spices
Guus’s recipes are suitable for every day, while Dick’s recipes let you put together a high class dinner on a day off. On our must cook list are, in any case, the veal chuck with five spices and fresh pearl onions, the Brussels sprout mash with pork belly, and the deep-fried sole with potato salad. Followed by a couple of kingsize bokkenpoten with vanilla cream and dark chocolate.
Morning after
The men have also thought of the morning after: the book concludes with a chapter full of hearty breakfasts that you can easily put together with a wooden head. You can find the recipe for oeuf en cocotte with bloody mary here. Just remember to do your shopping for this one in advance too, will you?
