These are ‘real’ food photos

Tired of photos on Instagram featuring smashed avocado toasts, cappuccinos and marble tables? Then photographer Martin Par’s photos are a real breath of fresh air.

door Nora van den Heuvel
Par has been photographing food since 1994, previously capturing British food in a series British Food and creating books about food culture in Mexico and Japan. All this work has now been collected in the book Real Food.
“Posh food looks too much like magazines and this is real food. Magazines are about selling food, recipes, a concept. Here, there’s nothing to sell.”
