These edible Christmas baubles from Allerhande are the ones you’ll want to make and hang in your tree right now

Popcorn kerstbal

I get intensely happy from a Christmas tree full of baubles. My favorite: baubles you can fill with drinks. But then I saw something pop up on Allerhande’s Instagram. Edible Christmas baubles that you can make entirely yourself.

And they’re fun, delicious and completely Christmassy. As if my two favorite things on earth (Christmas and food) are coming together more than ever. We do have a few tips to share in advance: make sure these Christmas baubles aren’t too close to a roaring radiator. They (and you) won’t be too happy about that. And maybe don’t eat too many in a row either—even if only because you don’t want to start the new year with a gigantic dentist’s bill.

How to make edible Christmas baubles

  • Put the marshmallows and butter in a pan over low heat and let them melt for 5 minutes. Stir with a spatula. Divide the popcorn over 3 bowls and pour the marshmallow mixture over it. Leave to cool for 3 minutes. Meanwhile, cut 3 cm off the bottom of the candy canes.
  • Using a spatula, mix the green food coloring into 1 bowl of marshmallow mixture and the red food coloring into another bowl of marshmallow mixture. Leave 1 bowl of marshmallow mixture uncolored.
  • Shape 4 balls from each mixture by hand (grease your hands with the oil to prevent sticking). Insert a candy cane into each ball so you can hang up the balls, and spray a golden layer onto the Christmas baubles with the gold glitter spray. Place the Christmas baubles on a sheet of parchment paper and leave to set for 30 minutes.
