This butcher sells vegan turkeys for Christmas
Making fish and meat products vegan — I’m not entirely sold on it, to be honest. Last week, for example, my colleague Sharon and I tasted Garden Gourmet’s vegan foie gras, and I’m still recovering. No, this was not good. And I don’t entirely understand it either; why do products that aren’t vegan need to be made vegan? If I want to eat vegetarian or vegan, I actually enjoy experimenting with vegetables, rather than getting a meat substitute on my plate.
Okay, that’s my opinion, and it’s clear that there’s huge demand for these kinds of products. Because this butcher is even selling a vegan turkey for Christmas. Yes… Let that sink in for a moment. Vegan. Turkey.
Vegan turkey: a ‘limited edition’
For anyone who gets excited about this right away: you can buy the vegan turkey from De Vegetarische Slager, and I have to admit that I often find their products surprisingly tasty. Last year, they also introduced a 4.5-kilo vegan turkey, and due to its great success, it’s available again this year. But there’s more. ‘This year, for the first time, we have a vegan turkey breast filled with apricots and a nut filling, which serves 4 to 5 people,’ spokesperson Amadea Boneschansker told RTL Nieuws.
De Vegetarische Slager’s products are also available in supermarkets, but you can only get this vegan turkey at home by ordering it in advance. For that, you had to visit their location in Rotterdam (Pannekoekstraat 18A) and fill out the order form. Unfortunately, the deadline has already passed, but you can always call to ask whether there might still be one available — and please give me a review if you do, because I’m secretly very curious about it.
