Thirsty tales

This Finnish gin will make you sweat profusely

The World’s Best G&T

The sauna is an indispensable part of Finnish culture. In fact, the best ideas (and a large part of the Finnish population) are born in the sauna. The same goes for this Finnish knockout of a gin.

Kyrö Napue is not just any gin. It was once voted ‘Best Gin for the Gin and Tonic’ in the International Wine and Spirit Competition. With a bouquet packed with Scandinavian botanicals such as sea buckthorn, cranberries and birch leaves, Napue Gin does justice to its origins.

Since we’re rather the ‘we’ll believe it when we taste it’ type, we tasted the G&T made with Napue Gin first. And it has to be said: we’ve rarely had such a powerhouse of a gin and tonic. This is truly a Finnish thirst-quencher for inside and outside the sauna!

Method

Fill an Iittala Lempi glass (or a whisky glass) with ice cubes. Pour in the gin and tonic. Stir briefly and garnish with a sprig of rosemary and three cranberries. Optional: head into the sauna.
