Tested: Abbot Kinney’s vegan ice cream bar

Abbot Kinney’s is back with another vegan ice cream bar — a chocolate-coated ice cream bar on a stick, to be precise. The previous ice cream bar was made with coconut milk; this time, they’re going for almonds. In the name of science, we put it to the test for you.

This ice cream bar is the first of its kind: an organic, plant-based ice cream bar made with almonds. The ice cream bar is organic, and sustainable from its packaging to its chocolate topping. Even the packaging and the wooden stick carry the FSC certification. Abbot Kinney’s mission? To get at least 250,000 people to join the #stickupforyourplanet movement (get it?).

What makes this ice cream bar especially special is that it’s made with vegan milk chocolate. Many companies would rather not take the risk here. And when they do make a vegan version of chocolate, it’s often mainly dark chocolate that’s used.

Authentic and exotic

The ice cream bar really has a flavor of its own and brings to mind a glass of deliciously cold orgeade. Which makes sense, since that also contains almonds. Although we’re big fans of orgeade, we expected the ice cream bar to be a little creamier. The Belgian chocolate coating the ice cream bar crumbles nicely, and the difference from ‘regular’ milk chocolate is almost impossible to taste.

These vegan bars are on the expensive side, though; a box of three costs €5.99 (Almond gosh!).
