This Ingredient Will Take Any Pasta Dish to the Next Level

If you love making pasta, I have a golden tip for you. Because there is one secret ingredient that turns many pasta dishes into something truly special. And yes, it really can be done with just one ingredient. It sounds very simple—and it is—but it will genuinely make a big difference to the flavor.

Okay, I won’t beat around the bush: cinnamon. That’s the ingredient you need to stock up on and absolutely add to your pasta dish.
No More Sugar—Use Cinnamon Instead
Maybe you’ve used sugar in your tomato sauce before, but you’re much better off replacing it with cinnamon—it really does improve the flavor. Why? Because cinnamon is sweet, while also making sure the other flavors stay nicely balanced.
Sugar, for example, makes the acidity of the tomatoes much less noticeable, whereas cinnamon keeps the flavor nicely balanced. So it also comes down to what you personally prefer; a combination of cinnamon and a little sugar can work very well too.
Which Dishes Can You Use It In?
And the great thing about cinnamon is that it can be used in all kinds of pasta dishes. This Italian chef swears by cinnamon in her pasta carbonara, and it also works really well in lasagna. Personally, I love adding it to a tomato sauce, as described above. Add the cinnamon while you let the sauce simmer for a little longer, and use it sparingly—a little is all you need!
