This is Europe’s first underwater restaurant

Europe’s first underwater restaurant, called ‘Under’, opened its doors at the end of March (the doors are on dry land, though) in Norway. The tilted building is somewhat reminiscent of the sinking Titanic, but that doesn’t bother the customers: the restaurant is already fully booked through October.

Ever since I was little, I’ve been obsessed with all things ‘underwater-world-like’. It started with The Little Mermaid, progressed to my first goldfish (Dolly was his—yes, a he—name), then snorkeling, deep-sea diving, dreaming of a bathroom that is all aquarium and, honestly: during Aquaman I was sitting on the edge of my seat.
Largest underwater restaurant
Anyway: it won’t surprise you that I’m extremely happy about the news that the world’s largest underwater restaurant has opened less than a two-hour flight from us.
Under is its name, and the building resembles a—I said it already—sinking ship. Or a stranded whale. Whatever you like. In any case: the restaurant is located 5.5 meters below sea level and designed so that, in time, reef and kelp can grow on the outside, making it part of the sea.
Fish fish fish
What’s on the menu? Fish, of course! Caught as sustainably as possible. Danish chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard is at the helm and brings a star-worthy team with him.
Well, naturally, that comes with a price tag: 235 euros per person, to be precise. But in return, you get an 18-course menu. Besides, you have plenty of time to save: the place is already fully booked through October.
