This is how much the vegan meal box from a three-Michelin-starred chef costs

When the renowned New York three-Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park reopened after the coronavirus closure with an exclusively plant-based menu, the reaction was one of both great surprise and admiration. It seemed like a bold move, and around the world, people wrote about chef Daniel Humm’s decision to stop using any animal products in his kitchen. And now Humm has developed the following…

Because if you can’t manage to get your hands on a highly coveted table, or if you can’t or don’t want to fork out three hundred and twenty euros for a set menu (and that’s without drinks), there’s now the option of having an ‘Eleven Madison Home’ meal box delivered to your home every week. This menu is also entirely plant-based, and a bargain compared with what you pay at the restaurant. One hundred and forty-two euros ($150), that is, for one person. And how many days can you eat from it? One. Yep.
One day can make a difference
For Daniel Humm, that one day represents the one day per week that would already make an enormous difference to the well-being and future of the planet if everyone in the world ate plant-based for one day a week. He also says that no one needs to worry about still being hungry at the end of that day, because it’s a box ‘full of abundance’. ‘You’ll probably still have leftovers the next day.’ Yes, that is nice.
Make it easy
Humm believes that eating plant-based shouldn’t be something to dread, and guests at his restaurant often tell him that if this is what veganism is, they would happily eat plant-based every day. We understand that, but of course not everyone is blessed with Mr Humm’s talents and finesse. And to give the rich and wealthy (or rather, the rich and wealthy of Manhattan, because that’s where the box can be delivered) a day of his philosophy and food each week, there is now Eleven Madison Home. Ten percent of the proceeds from each box is donated to the organisation Rethink Food, whose goal is a more sustainable and equitable food system.
A little cauliflower on the side
And for those who are still afraid of going hungry with the selection of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, or who want to go even more fully plant-based, add-ons are also available. Tacos, for example, vegan kebab, or, for an extra $75: a curry cauliflower. A whole one, don’t worry! We’re not saying that to be facetious, because we know all too well that food made with real care, knowledge and skill can (and should) cost a fair amount. So if you live in Manhattan, are filthy rich and have outgrown HelloFresh, this might be a very nice next step…
