This is the whisky that suddenly turned me into a whisky lover

Don’t get me wrong; I love alcoholic beverages. Always have. But I’m not necessarily what you’d call an adventurous drinker. Tequila has never been for me, just like many other spirits. Give me a glass of wine or a beer and I’m happy.

So I often politely decline when someone offers me something I don’t know. Very cowardly, I know. But since this year, I’ve started to change that: trying exciting creations more often, both food and drinks. And that’s how, at 32, I can say that I’ve suddenly become a whisky drinker.
Suddenly, you get it: you love whisky
I had been invited to an event by Highland Park, at Helling 7 in Amsterdam-Noord (a real recommendation, by the way—what a lovely place), where I was treated to a whisky tasting featuring this brand. Seriously, how has no one ever told me that whisky can be incredibly delicious? HAHA, I genuinely thought it was quite a discovery.
My personal favourite was definitely the twelve-year-old whisky from Highland Park, but the fifteen- and eighteen-year-old ones weren’t bad either, I must say. I found the smokiness of the fifteen-year-old genuinely intensely delicious, so perhaps that one shares the top spot.
Perfect for a summer cocktail
Does neat whisky still sound a little too intense for you? I get it, because I used to feel the same way. I discovered that I secretly really enjoy it, but you can also use Highland Park whisky very well in a cocktail. Ideal in this warm weather. My favourites? Here they come.
3. Salted Caramel, Chocolate & Ginger Fruit Sundae
(Okay, okay, this isn’t really a cocktail, but trust me: you’ll want to try this summer).
