This is why chicken nuggets only come in 4 shapes
If you love chicken nuggets, it might be wise NOT to look up how they’re made. It’s not exactly appetizing, and it could permanently ruin nuggets for you. But then again, you could probably have guessed that the meat is processed quite a bit; all portions of chicken nuggets come in a combination of four shapes, so there’s little left to recognize as a chicken.
But there really is a reason behind those four shapes.
It actually makes perfect sense
The four varieties are called the bell, the ball, the boot and the bone. My personal favorite is the boot, and I have no idea why; they both taste the same, but for me this one is always the most delicious.
Online magazine Business Insider once looked into it in more depth: why only four shapes? As with literally everything at McDonald’s, there’s a reason and a strategy behind it, and in this case, it’s actually one that makes quite a lot of sense. Because what is it all about at Maccie? Exactly, fast food. And the name says it all: people want their food quickly.
That’s why it’s important that, first, the chicken nuggets cook quickly and, second, that they cook at the same time, so they can go into the fryer in large batches and all be ready simultaneously. And that’s why these four shapes were chosen: they all have the same cooking time and are therefore ready at the same time. Mystery solved.
