This is why ice cream can bring instant happiness

Ice cream: we love it so much. Adeline eats a popsicle virtually every day, I do too at least 3 times a week, Sharon is the biggest Liuk popsicle fan in the Netherlands, and as soon as ice cream parlors open in spring, we’re there in a flash. Scooped ice cream at home, gelato at the specialist, a Rocket popsicle by the pool; they all make us equally happy. And that’s no wonder, as this ice cream expert also knows…

Sarah Masoni is a true expert when it comes to ice cream and dairy. She is a cheese master and dairy expert, and has helped develop around 100 different types of ice cream from various brands and makers. And what does this woman, who speaks straight to our hearts, say? Ice cream is not junk food!
Enjoying it immensely, in moderation
It is a snack, she says, so not something you should eat indiscriminately all day, every day. But there is a whole world behind it, and that is probably why you can never eat just one bite of ice cream.
Three steps to happiness
Why do we love ice cream so much? First of all, there are three things (virtually all) people crave, two of which are sugar and fat. (Ta-da: ice cream). The third is salt, by the way, so serve up some salted caramel ice cream and you’ll have ticked every box you need to be happy. But according to Masoni, there is something else that makes ice cream magical…
Ice cream with a story
And that element is association. We associate ice cream with the good moments in our lives: holidays, birthdays, going to the ice cream parlor with your parents or grandparents, being together with family or others… According to Masoni, you can have an incredibly awful day, but ice cream can bring back memories of a happy moment and make you feel (a little) better.
That seems like motivation enough to us to eat ice cream regularly (even if it’s just one scoop). And when you’re in Italy, just a little more, because there making inferior ice cream might even become punishable by law. Just to show that they really don’t joke around when it comes to ice cream, and the aim is for you to always get a perfect scoop!
