This surprising ingredient makes the most delicious overnight oats
Are you a fan of overnight oats? Try something different and make them with crème fraîche! This ingredient makes your old, familiar bowl of oatmeal much more exciting.
Oatmeal has had less-than-stellar reputation for a very long time. A little dull, perhaps even boring. Until overnight oats were invented. Suddenly, it was trendy to make your oatmeal in the evening, put it in a nice glass jar and top it with fun toppings the next day. Overnight oats are easy and delicious. Plus, you can really let your creativity run wild, because you can come up with countless variations. For example, try making them with crème fraîche.
Fresh, creamy and velvety smooth
Overnight oats are usually made with (plant-based) milk or yoghurt. Crème fraîche is not an obvious choice, because we are used to using this tangy cream in savoury dishes. For example, when I hear the words ‘crème fraîche’, I immediately think of a thick, steaming dish of nachos. But now I can no longer imagine my overnight oats without crème fraîche either. It gives the oatmeal a wonderfully creamy, velvety texture and a fresh touch. It nicely balances the sweetness of your breakfast. A top addition, if you ask me!
In the evening or in the morning
You can incorporate crème fraîche into your overnight oats in 2 ways. Prepare your oatmeal the night before with crème fraîche right away, replacing the milk or yoghurt. The crème fraîche then has the whole night to really work its way in. Would you like the freshness of the crème fraîche to stand out even more? Then prepare your overnight oats in your usual way – with your favourite yoghurt or milk product – and stir a generous spoonful of crème fraîche through them in the morning. You will really taste the fresh, tangy flavour of the cream.
