This TikTok shows how we are misled in the supermarket

I really should pay a bit more attention in the supermarket; I often choose convenience instead of thinking about what the most affordable option would be. So a TikTok like this one, from the account greenfuel.shop, is very useful to me. They show products that can seriously rip you off in the supermarket.

I was already aware of one of their examples, and I have even written about it: honey isn’t always real honey. So check in the supermarket whether it was made in the Netherlands, because we have stricter regulations than other countries — and then there’s a good chance it’s mainly sugar syrup rather than pure honey.

Pay attention to this when buying fish at the supermarket

This may be a useful TikTok especially for fish lovers: you can save so much money by buying frozen fish. And by adding your own herbs, and, for example, not buying shrimp marinated in garlic, you get more for your money — because of the addition of that garlic marinade, you’re actually getting nineteen percent less shrimp. A bit of a shame.

And make sure you pay close attention to the herbs too: Verstegen’s herbs are full of salt, especially the Cajun seasoning. It consists of 70 percent (!) salt. Hoooly shit, I really wasn’t aware of that. You’re better off buying the smaller jar of Cajun seasoning, which is more expensive but doesn’t contain as much salt. Learned something new again, right?
