TikTokers swear by it: lettuce water will help you sleep better

Is water infused with lettuce the remedy that makes all sleep problems disappear like snow in the sun? According to these TikTokers, it is. Lettuce water is one of the latest trends on the platform, but does it really work?

Move over herbal tea and hello, old-fashioned head of lettuce! In the latest TikTok trend, people with sleep problems claim that drinking lettuce water helps them sleep better. The hype was started by beauty influencer Shapla. She documented her success in a video that has since been viewed and liked millions of times.
Lettuce-water tea
As shown in the video, the influencer first explains how to make the miracle drink. First, she washes the lettuce leaves, puts them in a mug and then fills it with boiling water. Add a bag of mint tea, let it steep for 10 minutes and the drink is ready. The first few times the TikToker drinks it, she claims to genuinely feel sleepy, and after a few days she even sleeps deeply through entire nights.

Nonsense or miracle drink?
Although Shapla and millions of others claim that lettuce-water tea helps with sleep problems, experts say there is no scientific evidence for this and that it mainly works because of the placebo effect. The chance that something will work when you firmly believe in it is actually quite high. Placebo or not, it works for many people. Shall we make a cup tonight?
