The fact that you know how to recognize a ripe pineapple already deserves a standing ovation in our book. And on top of that, you’ll also get a solution to the biggest problem among pineapple eaters. Because of course, you want to eat it without bumps and bruises.

Salt Bae

Here’s some reassuring news: you’re (probably) not allergic and you don’t need to go to the hospital either. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme doesn’t break down well in your mouth. The tingling sensation is therefore actually a struggle between the pineapple and your mouth.

Fortunately, the solution is easier than you think. Put the sliced pineapple in a bowl of water and sprinkle in a little salt, à la Salt Bae. It doesn’t affect the flavor, but fortunately it does help with the irritation. Doesn’t that work? There’s still hope: you can also grill, roast or bake your pineapple for a little while. You’ll have an excuse to turn it into a killer pineapple dessert right away.
