Tip for truffle lovers: a truffle lunch in the vineyard
This is a truly delicious time of year for truffle lovers, because it’s the season for white truffles. So whenever possible: truffle on everything, as far as I’m concerned. Last week I had the white truffle menu at Italian restaurant TOZI in Amsterdam (highly recommended!), and now I already have another delicious prospect to look forward to: a truffle lunch in the vineyard—and right in Amstelveen! On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November, Special Wines is organising an Italian lunch at Amsteltuin vineyard in Amstelveen. The lunch is all about the northern Italian wine region of Piedmont, which means: truffles and Nebbiolo!
A fantastic combination
Nebbiolo is the famous grape of northern Italy, and more specifically of one particular part of northern Italy: Piedmont. Here, in the hilly landscape, the grape is responsible for two famous Italian wines that delight wine lovers from all over the world: Barolo and Barbaresco. I’m almost drooling just writing this…
Truffles and Nebbiolo are a case of 1 + 1 = 3; two delicacies from Piedmont that truly provide ultimate pleasure. This is a match made in heaven; truffles, with their wild, musky, earthy depth, are sensational with the aromas and flavours that Nebbiolo wines develop after years of ageing: wild, leather, earth, and… what else could it be: truffles!
Piedmontese cuisine
Are you getting lyrical about this too? The lunch starts at 12 noon with a drink and a tour of the vineyard. This is followed by a five-course lunch which, how could it be otherwise, is inspired by Piedmontese cuisine. The price for this Italian afternoon in Amstelveen is 85 euros, including a tour and a glass of wine from Amsteltuin vineyard, an aperitif, lunch and coffee/tea. During the lunch, you can order wine by the glass and/or bottle, or opt for a wine pairing.
