Tip: Vinho Verde

Skip the prosecco for once and go for vinho verde, a refreshing wine with a slight fizz from Portugal.

Vinho verde comes from the province of Minho in northwestern Portugal, bordering the Spanish province of Galicia. Verde means green, but it isn’t.  The wine has this name because the grapes used for it are picked early. As a result, it has a lower alcohol content. Light and refreshing, then.

Different varieties
There are white, red and rosé vinho verde; the latter two are mainly drunk in Portugal and are difficult to find in the Netherlands. Fortunately, the white variety is available and pairs perfectly with fish, crustaceans and shellfish, and salads. Summer drinks? This wine is easy to keep drinking, without the danger of quickly falling off your chair.
