Toasting the King

What do you do as a brewery when the king comes to visit your city? You brew orange beer. And that is exactly what they did at Rockin’ Ludina brewery in Groningen.

The orange beer is best compared to a blonde beer. Thanks in part to orange peels and the Mandarina Bavaria hop variety, this beer has a fruity flavour with light bitterness. Because the beer has an alcohol content of 5.5%, it is not too heavy and, importantly, easy to keep drinking. Ideal for a day of celebrating with the sun on your head. Incidentally, no colouring has been added to the orange beer; its colour comes from special types of malt.
The name was chosen by Ludina fans. On their Facebook page, people were allowed to come up with a name themselves. ‘Royal Ludina’ was chosen from all the entries. The beer is available at Makro in Groningen and is served in various cafés. This year, there will be plenty of royal toasting to the King.
