Tomato sauce without pesticides: this Italian brand makes a promise
Mutti, the Italian brand we know for those amazing tomato products, from polpa to passata, has something new: a Zero Residue Pesticides (ZRP) range. This means tomato products without pesticide residues.
Pesticides are substances used to protect crops from pests and diseases. Naturally, these are substances you do not want to ingest yourself. Mutti now guarantees that its tomatoes contain virtually no measurable residues of these substances—less than 0.01 mg/kg, to be precise.
How does it work?
Mutti closely monitors its tomatoes from start to finish. To obtain the ZRP label, Mutti’s tomatoes undergo strict checks and analyses at every stage of the production chain. From field to factory, strict agricultural practices are applied to minimise the use of pesticides, including the limited and controlled use of approved pesticides.
This ensures that the product meets the strict European safety standards, which allow no more than 0.01 mg/kg of residues for more than 600 substances tested. Whether you are making a delicious Bolognese sauce or a tasty lasagne, you can be sure that you are tasting only the purest, most delicious tomatoes.
Difference between organic Mutti products
The main difference between Mutti’s Zero Residue Pesticides (ZRP) range and organic products lies primarily in the farming practices. Organic products are grown without chemical pesticides and instead use natural alternatives. Mutti’s ZRP products, on the other hand, use carefully controlled and limited lists of chemical pesticides. Thanks to strict testing, however, residues are kept below the strict European limit of 0.01 mg/kg, making them virtually undetectable in the finished product.
Tomatoes without chemical residues and without slave labour
With Mutti’s organic products, as well as the new ZRP range, you can be sure that you are eating tomatoes without unnecessary chemical residues. And at least as reassuring: Mutti uses only machines during the tomato harvest, in a sector where many Italian canned tomatoes are picked by migrants working under appalling conditions.
