Trend: City Drinks

After pink drinks, city drinks are now also totally in, notes trend forecaster Vincent van Dijk. We’re immediately serving you a top 5 of new, hip city drinks.

Amsterdam
Increasingly, you see the name of a city appear in the brand name of a drink. This city name naturally says something about the nature of a brand. And what better advertising for a city than to shine on the label of a cool drink? Especially Amsterdam works well as a brand name in the drinks world. Internationally too. Amsterdam is associated with freedom, boldness, creativity and independence. So we can expect many more thirsty tourists in the coming years.
Glocal
Over the past few years, we’ve seen great interest in local products and brands. Not only because this fits with the sustainability trend, but also because it fits with the trend towards craftsmanship. Right now, ‘glocal’ is the trend: we’re bringing in local heroes from all over the world. Instead of a locally brewed beer, we actually find it much more exciting to order a Brooklyn Lager, because it makes us think of New York.
NYC
Speaking of the Big Apple: this is where city drinks were invented. Snapple Juice struck a mega-deal with the city of New York at the beginning of this century, as part of the famous I LOVE NYC campaign. They sponsored education in the city and were therefore allowed to call themselves the official drink of NYC.
TOP 5
These are 5 fun city drinks you’ll encounter everywhere and nowhere this summer:
Amsterdam Brewboys
The distinctive and artisanal beer brand Amsterdam Brewboys chose Amsterdam as its home base, the cradle of freedom, entrepreneurship and independence. For example, they make Amsterdam Pale Ale. An elegant, bitter beer with a distinctly Mokum character. Is it any good? It has already won prizes at the Dutch Beer Challenge, London Beer Competition & World Beer Awards, but judge for yourself!

Amsterdam Cider
A refreshing example of a City Drink is Amsterdam Cider, a new low-alcohol cider without gluten, available in demi-sec and brut. Could this finally make cider a hit in the Netherlands?
Amsterdam Tinto
And what about Amsterdam Tinto, a refreshing, lightly bitter, low-alcohol wine cocktail? As they describe it themselves: Amsterdam Red – the creative and international character that flows through the veins of our city.

Chateau Amsterdam
Climate change is happening so fast that we’re now making wine in Amsterdam too. No, the grapes don’t grow here, but they are transported to this first city winery, where they are selected, vinified and aged. Besides making wines here, you can also see how the wine is made.

Moj
Amsterdam isn’t the only city appearing on hip labels. Even Groningen is making itself heard. The Moj brand carries the subtitle “Est. Groningen”. This lemonade is made without messing around with artificial ingredients. Local juice, natural spring water and a little cane sugar. Purely the taste of Groningen’s down-to-earth attitude.
