Trend: pink drinks

What are we going to drink this summer? Trend forecaster Vincent van Dijk looked into his crystal ball for us and saw pink drinks all over the place. He explains where this cheerful trend comes from and, voilà: we’re also giving you a top 5 of the tastiest pink summer drinks to help you survive these thirsty tropical days without a hitch.

A dollop of pink here, a dollop of pink there… Many new bars and restaurants are strikingly pink-tinted, such as The Avocado Show Downtown, which recently opened its doors. The trend blew over from London, where The Gallery in The Sketch started it with a bright pink interior. Colors such as Pink Peacock (more fuchsia) and Sweet Lilac (more baby pink) are also completely hot in fashion this summer, so it’s no wonder the trend is trickling down into the world of drinks.

Infectious
The fact that pink is scoring so well in the hospitality industry also has to do with how infectious this color is on Instagram. Ideal as a backdrop, and a pink glass also gets more likes than an unrecognizable transparent concoction. Moreover, it fits with the trend of wanting to see more flowers and botanicals in our glasses. Reddish-pink ingredients such as roses, hibiscus, raspberries and rhubarb give our drinks both flavor and color.

Pink drinks Top 5
Whether you opt for an alcohol-free drink, a glass of bubbles or a gin and tonic, these are the tastiest pink drinks you can definitely try this summer:
Pink gin
Pink gin was already a hit in gin-loving England last year, and since last week we can also sip on a pink gin here. Namely the Dutch pink gin from Gin 1689. Strawberry and raspberry have been added to this gin. A delicious base for a G&T and other pink cocktails.
Pink soft drink
NOLO, which stands for no or low alcohol: trendy too. The alcohol-free The Duchess cleverly capitalizes on this and, alongside the regular version, now also has a pink lady in its range, The Duchess Floral. Serve like a vir’gin: with raspberry, mint and lemon.

Pink vermouth
In Italy, we drank the Italian Drapò Vermouth Rosé. Ideal if you find white vermouth too sweet and red vermouth too full-bodied. It will soon also be available in the Netherlands—we can’t wait!
Pink lemonades
These days, besides different gins, you can also choose from different tonics or lemonades to mix with. For example, Fentimans Rose Lemonade, with Bulgarian rose oil, or Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic Water. And thanks to the availability of grapefruit soda, you can now also make fantastic palomas.

Rosé champagne
The ultimate festive choice: rosé champagne. Delicious on its own, but thanks to its fruity freshness, it also pairs very well with food. From rosé champagne with tuna steak (from the barbecue) to rosé bubbles with lobster. And did you know that the pink bubbles also go well with desserts? Desserts based on or combined with red fruit such as raspberries and strawberries, or with dark chocolate: irresistible!
