Vegan gets furious because non-vegan eats tofu

Seventeen-year-old student Anna del Rey had no idea what hit her last week. Just minding her own business, she suddenly received a message on Facebook. Anna had posted a recipe on a Facebook page for vegan dishes (called ‘tofurkey’ and honestly: this name got my attention), and received what at first seemed like a sweet response. But it didn’t stop there…

‘I loved your tofurkey dinner recipe you shared, how long have you been vegan?’ , the message read. Anna wanted to set the record straight: she enjoys a vegan dish from time to time, but she isn’t vegan. And that didn’t go down well with the anonymous sender, who was clearly a passionate vegan.
How dare you eat tofu if you’re not vegan?!
‘So your [sic] like pretending to be a vegan cause it’s cool and in? I’ve been vegan for 3 years now and it was the best decision I’ve made in my life. It’s not hip or cool. It’s important.’ Uhhh, okaaaay… It was clearly eating this woman up that someone could eat tofu and *the horror* NOT be vegan. Outrageous. Almost criminal. She went on: ‘Tofu is strictly for vegans and vegetarians. You are basically admitting to appropriating us and stealing what we need for your own selfish use.’
Yes, seriously. This woman believes that vegan food is only for vegans, and that if you dare eat something vegan, you’re guilty of cultural appropriation. Yes, apparently veganism isn’t just a lifestyle, but an entire culture. You learn something new every day, don’t you?
Think you’re going to enjoy a delicious plant-based dish, only to find yourself dealing with the Internet Vegan Police. Fortunately, this madame is an exception…
