Veggie & fruit hacks

Untitled design-23

The onion falls apart, the watermelon just won’t cut into pieces, and the mango won’t come out of its skin. Struggles you can avoid with these food hacks.

Iceberg lettuce

There is  a very easy way to get the core out of the head. You do this by giving the bottom of the head a good whack on the table. The core will then come loose, and you can easily pull it out.

Cherry tomatoes

Of course, you can cut them one by one, but it goes much faster if you can do a whole bunch at once.

Bell pepper

Many people struggle with this. Not because cutting it is necessarily so difficult, but because the kitchen ends up covered in seeds. So first cut off the stem, and place it upside down on a cutting board. Then cut down along the edges.

Mushrooms

Using a knife is quick, but did you know that a egg slicer is much faster? Remove the stem from the mushroom, place it in the slicer, and you’re done. This also works easily with olives and avocados.

Onion
It falls apart, and you’re already crying at the first cut. It can of course be much easier—just watch this video, and read here how to prevent those tears.

Garlic

You can remove the skin from a whole bulb in no time by shaking it in a glass jar for a moment. You can easily loosen the skin from a clove by pressing it flat with a knife.

Melon

First cut it horizontally into two pieces. You can then lay these flat and cut them first into strips and then into cubes. This way, you can eat your watermelon without making a mess.

Mango

With its gigantic pit and tough skin, cutting a mango can be quite a challenge if you don’t know the best way to do it. It is actually very simple—just take a look at this video.
