Watching on Netflix: Samurai Gourmet

samurai gourmet

We really do love Netflix. Alongside classics like Chef’s Table and Somm, there are plenty of other shows to make your mouth water. Our latest tip: Samurai Gourmet.

Our love for Japan and all its food is immense, so a Japanese show entirely devoted to food can only make us happy. The show follows a 60-year-old man who has just retired. That means plenty of free time, which he prefers to fill by eating everything he enjoys. A man after our own hearts.

A quest for food
Each episode—there are twelve—takes you along on his quest for the most delicious food. Expect plenty of shots of food, sizzling meat and steaming ramen; everything is filmed in such a way that you can almost taste it already. Make sure you have snacks, preferably Japanese ones, because you are guaranteed to get hungry.

Watching
The entire first season is available on Netflix. Click this link and you won’t even have to search. Unfortunately, the trailer has no subtitles, but be sure to watch it anyway, because delicious food needs no subtitles.
