Weekend tip: Dim Sumday at Ron Gastrobar in Amsterdam

Eating dim sum, the style of dining where you share lots of small dishes, a bit like mezze or tapas, is the ultimate weekend activity as far as I’m concerned. During Ron Gastrobar’s Dim Sumday, you can now drop by all day Sunday—delicious!

Dim sum all day long
Let’s get straight to the point: during Dim Sumday, you can have dim sum brunch, dim sum drinks and even dim sum dinner. That’s a slight departure from the true dim sum tradition, where dim sum is only available at lunchtime. If you ask for the menu in the evening, it has usually already disappeared in Chinese restaurants; in China, the dim sum dining spectacle traditionally takes place at the end of the morning. But so what? If I can eat dim sum all day, I have absolutely no problem with that.
5-course dim sum
Normally, Ron Gastrobar Oriental Downtown is only open in the evening, but during Dim Sumday, the doors open in the afternoon. During Dim Sumday, a 5-course menu is served, consisting of an extensive selection of Ron Gastrobar’s famous dim sum and Oriental snacks. And although Chinese cuisine may not be known for its desserts (I can still vividly remember my last wobbly dessert, but don’t ask me what it was…), I recommend saving room for the surprising dessert to round off Dim Sumday.
Every last Sunday of the month
Dim Sumday takes place every last Sunday of the month from 12:00 to 21:00. The next dates for which you can already make a reservation (for 2 people or more) are:
30 August
27 September
25 October
29 November
You pay 50 euros per person (excluding drinks), with the option to add specials such as Peking duck or sea bass. There is also live music throughout the day.
