Which hardcore carnivore will pocket 50K for switching to vegan food?

Veganuary is well underway, and many people taking part will now, roughly halfway through, be assessing whether this is a lifestyle they can keep up for much longer—or perhaps even for good. And one vegan meal-box company has now offered the biggest incentive yet to make the switch from meat to plant-based food: a whopping fifty thousand pounds!

Because although many people still swear by a perfectly cooked steak, the abundance of incredibly delicious vegan recipes is making it increasingly easy for a large group of doubters (slice of vegan Bounty pie? Yes please!). And if you were already firmly in the portobello steak camp, this challenge wouldn’t be for you. But British company Vibrant Vegan is looking for ‘the biggest carnivore in the United Kingdom’ to try, in exchange for £50,000, to leave the bratwursts behind and embrace a completely plant-based diet. For just three months, no less! Surely that should even convince the biggest doubters?!
Curious as can be
Vibrant Vegan wants to turn a die-hard carnivore 180 degrees and have them sign a contract promising not to consume a single animal product for three months, as well as keeping up a social media campaign to convince other meat eaters too. They have called this role ‘Vegan Curious Coordinator’, and besides 50,000 pounds, the candidate will also receive a three-month supply of their ready-made meals and products to share their experiences on social media. In addition, a nutritionist will be on hand to help shape a new, healthy eating pattern.
And they lived happily ever after, plant-based
If the first three months are successful, the company will pay the candidate 50,000 pounds and ask whether it was such a success that they would like to continue eating vegan for the rest of 2021 too. In that case, Vibrant Vegan will continue supplying this person with vegan meals worth approximately ‘a lifetime’ of £100,000: one meal worth £6 a day for forty-five years. All in exchange for social media posts and a food diary.
Interest has soared
The company came up with the idea after Google Trends data showed that more people than ever had searched for ‘vegan diet’ in January 2020, and after conducting its own survey of 1,500 people, more than a third of whom said they were curious about a plant-based diet. This convinced them to link their mission (‘everyone, including the most die-hard meat eater, can enjoy vegan food’) to this potentially very lucrative challenge!
Unfortunately, this opportunity is not available to us in the Netherlands, but if you still have acquaintances in the United Kingdom whom you would like to alert, they can sign up here until 25 January. For the rest of us: there may not be any hard cash involved, but if you’re curious, we naturally have a whole arsenal of amazing vegan recipes ready for you. Pumpkin risotto with fried mushrooms, for example—yum!
