Wok to Walk opens its first real restaurant, and this is what you’ll want to eat there

Fast food, but healthy and genuinely delicious: the fact that many people appreciate this is clear from the new—and sixth—Wok to Walk location. The originally Dutch chain now has more than 100 locations worldwide, 6 of which are in Amsterdam. And one major difference compared with the other Wok to Walk locations: this is the first place where you can actually eat in. The restaurant in De Pijp in Amsterdam also has a large terrace. We’re sharing our favorite dishes from the menu.

You could say it’s gone from Wok to Walk to Wok to Dine. Because besides still being able to come here for to go wok dishes, you can also sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal. And at this new location on Eerste van der Helststraat, in the heart of De Pijp, that’s no punishment. Just around the corner from the Albert Cuyp market, it’s lively and perfect for people-watching. Colorful characters guaranteed!

That it’s already a popular spot is clear from the steady stream of regulars. “See you again next week!” and “Even better than yesterday” were things we heard while enjoying our second portion of Vietnamese Green Taco’s. Despite the spacious terrace, the tables inside and the extensive dine-in menu, plenty of food is still being picked up as well.
Build your own
It’s hardly surprising: you can customize the wok dishes to your liking, and the Pad Thai in particular is hugely popular. The famous Thai stir-fried dish is made with rice noodles and your choice of protein (for example egg, peanuts or soybean sprouts) and can be prepared with tofu, prawns or chicken, among other options. In the same way, you can build your own Yakisoba, a popular Japanese stir-fried dish made with fried noodles.

They also have a selection of starters. We’ll definitely be back for the Dynamite Shrimps. You may know them already, as Dynamite Shrimps are a popular snack in Asian fusion cuisine. Deep-fried prawns served in a spicy, creamy sauce, with thinly sliced spring onion and a chili pepper—delicious! The Gyoza are also very tasty, with a choice of pork, duck or vegetarian filling.

But we’re most blown away by the Vietnamese Green Taco’s. Picture this: baby gem lettuce filled with minced chicken, lemongrass, coriander, sesame mayo (oh, we love it!) and charred lime to drizzle over your dish. Roasting gives the limes a deep, smoky flavor and caramelizes the natural sugars in the fruit, creating a sweeter and more complex taste. This technique, used to add an extra dimension to dishes, makes the dish fresh and juicy—and simply irresistible.

Deliciously fast
With this new Wok to Walk location, De Pijp, where you practically trip over the great restaurants, has gained a great spot for anyone who wants authentic Asian food that, just like in Asia itself, is prepared quickly, is healthy and above all delicious.

You’ll find the new Wok to Walk at Eerste van der Helststraat number 62, practically next door to Tjin’s sandwich shop, another great spot.
