Woof! Make dog biscuits for your dearest four-legged friend like this

We wouldn’t be happy eating kibble every day either, and dog lover Laurence Van Tongerloo also believes things can be different. As a true pet parent, Laurence shares more than 40 recipes for delicious, healthy and varied snacks for your loyal four-legged friend (and yourself!) in her new book Snoep Dog. After all, the way to a dog’s heart is through the stomach too!

Laurence: “A dog needs its main meal and, just as we enjoy an afternoon snack, your dog deserves one too. My recipes are made with love for your four-legged friend, but you can also treat yourself to them, since they are recipes that are good for both of you! Sharing (h)honest food with your four-legged friend is no longer a matter of spoiling them these days.”
How to make the bacon dog biscuits
- Cut the bacon slices into strips. Take a cold frying pan without fat and fry the bacon in it until crispy. Set the bacon aside and save the remaining fat.
- Cut the sweet potato into cubes. Sauté the sweet potato cubes until tender. Mash the cubes into a purée. Put the sweet potato purée, eggs and the remaining bacon fat in the food processor (or blender) and mix for
1 to 2 minutes. Meanwhile, gradually add the oats and spelt flour and continue mixing on a low setting until all the ingredients are well combined. Add as much flour as necessary until the dough is no longer sticky. Mix the bacon into the dough. - Continue kneading the dough by hand on a floured work surface until smooth. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 0.5 to 1 centimetre.
- Line a baking tray with a sheet of baking paper. Cut biscuits from the dough. Use whichever cutters you like best and place the biscuits on a baking tray. Put them in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Leave to cool completely.
Paw note: sweet potato is a vegetable packed with vitamins E, A, B6 and C and is also rich in calcium, iron, folic acid, potassium, copper and iron. Sweet potatoes make your friend’s blood sugar rise less quickly than regular potatoes. In short: they are a great addition to your dog’s diet.
