Do you also get that obsessed look in your eyes when a platter of snacks is put down? Does your enthusiasm rise when the menu is presented? And after so many courses, do you still enthusiastically order a cheese board and dessert? Then your spirit animal is probably Uni, the Japanese dog who gets just as excited about food – any food – as the most passionate foodies.

Uni lives with his owner in Japan. He has a wonderful life there, because his owner has an apartment full of dog toys and often takes Uni out to eat. Uni behaves impeccably then. Even in restaurants, he remains calm; he doesn’t bark. Not even when food is brought to the table, although his expression speaks volumes. Uni loves food, all food! He prefers fries, but when you see that cheerful doggy face, you suspect he wouldn’t turn down a milkshake or an entire Indonesian rice table either.

‘He’s always smiling’

Uni is a Shiba Inu, a Japanese dog breed. These dogs are known as intelligent, loyal little dogs that can charm people effortlessly. Uni proves it, because he is always welcome everywhere, and he is also a big hit on Instagram. ‘He’s always smiling, especially when there’s food nearby,’ says Uni’s owner. ‘And everyone finds him cute because of his grin and his white paws, which look as if he’s wearing mittens.’
