World record for eating dumplings broken

Chinese New Year means eating, lots of eating. A bit like Christmas, but with lots of noodles, fish, soup and, of course, dumplings. To usher in the Year of the Pig, the world record for eating dumplings was broken in Sydney on 5 February.

During the celebration of Chinese New Year, people eat food that brings good luck. If you serve your guests prawns, for example, you wish them a life that is just as energetic as that of a jumping prawn. It is also believed that the more dumplings you eat, the more prosperous the coming year will be. And that is precisely why 764 people gathered in Sydney yesterday to eat dumplings together.
Four pieces
Each participant received four dumplings, and to break the world record, everyone had to eat at least two dumplings. The previous world record was held by 750 people eating dumplings simultaneously. It is of course lovely that so many people come together to eat dumplings, but personally, I am not very impressed by two to four pieces per person. How many dumplings would the individual world record be?
33 dumplings
Since 2017, it has stood at 33 dumplings in two minutes. After a serious dim sum session, it may feel as though you have personally broken the world record for eating dumplings, but there is a good chance you are not even close. I am a fervent dumpling eater, but I cannot come anywhere near the speed at which this guy works his way through them. Check it out in this video—or don’t, because appetizing it is not.
