Thirsty tales

Wow: this advocaat from De Librije and Marigold is incredibly delicious

Marigold_Advocaat

Recently, I wrote about the amazing Marigold eggs. The eggs, with their velvety-soft, creamy yolks, are not only delicious on a rusk or in a salad, but you can also make advocaat with them. You know, that thick yellow liqueur. As part of ‘Make advocaat great again’, Jonnie and Thérèse Boer and Nelson Tanate of De Librije*** and Marigold have joined forces and launched two types of advocaat.

What do you get when you combine a unique egg with the very best botanical spirits and recipes from top chefs? A traditional Dutch classic at its absolute best!

Marigold

Marigold is the first culinary egg in the Netherlands. The eggs have a unique color, flavor and texture. They owe these qualities to the special feed given to the Marigold hens, enriched with the flowers of Tagetes, also known as marigolds. This creates a rich, deep golden-yellow yolk, a creamy texture and a delicate flavor.

Rumour & Revenge: two gastronomic advocaat liqueurs

Regular advocaat often contains added coloring to achieve a bright, deep-yellow color. But Marigold’s egg yolks are such a powerful yellow that the color of the advocaat from De Librije*** and Marigold is completely natural. The advocaat comes in two flavors: Rumour, a premium rum with a kiss of botanicals, composed by Thérèse Boer, and Revenge, a genever with kaffir lime and lemon zest, among other ingredients, Jonnie Boer’s signature drink.

The bottles cost 27 euros each; a limited edition containing both flavors in a luxury box costs 60 euros. You can order the Revenge and Rumour here
