Yet another restaurant owned by a star chef goes bankrupt and closes immediately
Last year, the impact of coronavirus became painfully clear for the hospitality industry. Alongside many vegan restaurants, well-known top establishments such as La Garage and Auberge Jean & Marie also closed their doors. Due to rising energy costs, staff shortages and repayment arrangements, it is financially difficult for restaurants to keep going. Café Cliché is the next restaurant in Amsterdam that can no longer stay afloat.
In 2018, star chef Sidney Schutte of restaurant Spectrum** opened Café Cliché in the east of Amsterdam. An accessible restaurant with delicious dishes such as steak tartare and glazed ribs on the menu. But unfortunately, here too, the aftermath of coronavirus has become too much.
Closed immediately
The restaurant has therefore closed immediately, and unfortunately, there is no longer any opportunity to take a seat for one last time.
‘All good things must come to an end. It sounds clichéd, but unfortunately this has become the reality for our restaurant in Amsterdam… We worked incredibly hard, but unfortunately we are closing our doors immediately. No more Pikketanussie or Allegaartje. Although Café Cliché Amsterdam had recently been on an upward trajectory and we saw you leave happily, it is not enough to overcome the covid period,’ the restaurant announced on Instagram.
Café Cliché in Middelburg
Café Cliché also has a location in Middelburg, Zeeland. Fortunately, this one will remain open for the time being. The restaurant says on Instagram that a possible restart has not been ruled out and that the options are still being explored.
