You’ve got to be kidding: there’s a shortage of white chocolate
Serious panic, especially in the south. That’s because there’s a shortage of white chocolate. And during the Sinterklaas season, when we practically live on chocolate letters…
The shortage is due to a salmonella bacterium that was found at the Callebout chocolate company in Belgium last summer. Because of the discovery, the company had to close for a while, which affected the production of white chocolate in particular.
Stress in the south
If, as a white-chocolate lover, this news is already stressing you out: at chocolate shops in the south of the country, it’s a real panic. Many shops depend on the Belgian company and are now left in a difficult position. There is hardly any white chocolate in stock, meaning that not only are there fewer white chocolate letters in the shops, but shop owners are also missing out on many orders. What a shame!
Then milk or dark chocolate?
Those who prefer milk or dark chocolate are luckier this year. Most chocolate shops have been able to resolve the shortage of these flavors through other suppliers. So if you can’t find your letter in white chocolate, another flavor or another letter is the solution.
