Yuzucello: the ultimate Japanese tipple

Do you also find limoncello far too sweet and strong? Good news, because Japanese Yuzucello has a lower alcohol content and is also considerably less sweet. You drink it on the rocks or simply straight from a shot glass. FavorFlavs Renée discovered it in Japan this summer, and there’s news: it has recently become available in the Netherlands. Guests at the FavorFlav Food Top 100 2018 at BAUT got a first taste.

Yuzu is a relatively unknown Japanese citrus fruit. Fortunately, more and more chefs and bartenders are discovering this flavor bomb because, believe me, no citrus fruit is as delicious. Yuzu has more flavor dimensions than any other citrus fruit and therefore also contains more aromas. That’s why it’s the perfect fruit for this delicious drink. Yuzucello is handmade and has a unique bitter, lightly sweet flavor. Think lime, lemon, bergamot and a hint of mandarin. Something about heaven on earth—and you won’t need anything else?
You want this
Anyway: you simply drink Yuzucello straight as a liqueur from a small glass, although in Japan I drank it almost daily from a tumbler full of ice. On the rocks, that is. Yuzucello also mixes well with gin or vodka, and what do you think about replacing the limoncello in your sgroppino with Yuzucello this Christmas? Trust us, you’ll want to. And with an alcohol content of 8%, you can easily knock back a few in a row without ending the family dinner completely sloshed.

Love at first sip
And the good news is that Yuzucello has recently become available here too. Dutchwoman Delja Blom has been the only person allowed to distribute Yuzucello in the Netherlands since this autumn. “I lived in Japan for seven years. During my last trip, I ended up at the Yuzucello brewery and fell instantly in love with this delicious drink. I brought it back to the Netherlands to serve during the sushi workshops I run. My students were immediately so enthusiastic. That’s when I decided to make it my mission to bring Yuzucello to the Netherlands—and I actually succeeded!” Yuzucello can be ordered via Yuzucello.nl. We say: add it to your wish list!
