Here you eat the best fish in Volendam

class="">You can get Volendam fish all over the country, but where do you eat the best fish in the village itself? I asked the queen of palingsound: Monique Smit.
“I’m lucky enough to live next door to and opposite a fishmonger, so I simply order my fish from the neighbors. But if you want to eat out, you can actually go almost anywhere in Volendam. Most restaurants here have also had the same menu for years; people come for the fish anyway, so why would they change it?”

Famous eel

Mo does have one favorite when it comes to eel: “Smit-Bokkum. And no, we’re not related, haha! Even Shakira has been there. She was in the Netherlands for a concert and wanted to go to the best fish restaurant, which was Smit-Bokkum. Next to the restaurant, they have a shop with a small display counter. All of the Netherlands’ famous people get their eel here.” And they even have a real palingsound museum too.
