Tess’ winter tinto de verano

Tinto de verano only delicious in summer? I don’t think so! If we can believe Tess Posthumus (and we happily do), this Spanish classic is also wonderful in winter. In fact: it’s Tess’ go-to punch for Christmas dinner.

My favorite summer drink is tinto de verano, without a doubt. Fresh, fruity, alcoholic, top-notch. Even better—or perhaps the very best: cocktail queen Tess Posthumus has come up with a winter version featuring nutmeg and cloves. Tinto de invierno, essentially. Ideal with Christmas dinner or New Year’s Eve or, as far as I’m concerned; any other day.

Pour the ingredients into a carafe or punch bowl. Stir briefly so the flavors blend well without releasing too much of the carbonation from the mixed drinks. You can now keep it in the refrigerator until the guests arrive and continue preparing the festive meal. Once everyone is inside, fill the rocks glasses with ice cubes, a slice of lemon and red berries, and pour in the tinto. Garnish with some freshly grated nutmeg and enjoy.
