The tastiest healthy bowls in Amsterdam

I’ll be honest: I couldn’t care less about the whole bowl trend, and if I want to eat healthily, I’ll just make some tofu and vegetables at home. Still, there’s one place that makes me question my beliefs: at SOIL of Amsterdam, the healthy bowls are so delicious that I order them non-stop.

By now, you’re probably familiar with the healthy fast-casual concept. These days, anyone who wants a quick bite but doesn’t fancy a greasy pizza or burger has plenty of options. SOIL of Amsterdam is one of many in the capital, but the only one where I genuinely enjoy every bowl. My favorite is the Hong Kong Bowl, with XO sauce, asparagus, fennel and curry cashews, but honestly, everything here is good.
Porridge
The Japanese rice porridge with coriander, corn, spring onion and furikake is also fantastic, though perhaps my opinion is a little biased. Chinese congee is one of my favorite dishes, so whenever I see savory rice porridge on a menu, I can no longer think straight. So delicious! Most of the bowls are vegan, by the way, but you can always add some chicken (free-range) or dairy.
Tasting
Another great thing is that you can have those bowls delivered right to your door. So are you too lazy to leave the house, but still want to eat healthily? Via UberEats or Deliveroo, you can order your healthy meal in no time. Still, it’s worth stopping by the restaurant on Bilderdijkstraat. There, you can order a proper tasting. You get a large bowl of rice and quinoa, plus all (!!) nine bowls on the menu. Curries, vegetables, sauces, kimchi (made from both cabbage and Brussels sprouts)… You won’t know what hit you.
New menu
Every so often, SOIL launches a completely new menu—and there’ll be another one soon. What’s on it is still strictly secret, but I do know that I’ll be having another little tasting menu soon. Good intentions have never been so easy.
