Ayran is an extremely refreshing yogurt drink

When it’s hot, you sweat more, so a little extra salt can’t hurt. At the same time, you’re also looking for refreshment. But salty and refreshing seem like two different things.

Until you’ve tried ayran (as it’s known in Turkish) or tahn (as it’s known in Armenian). A yogurt drink that’s both slightly salty and extremely refreshing. And it’s no sweat to make, either.

How to make Ayran

Put the yogurt in a pitcher and stir well. Add the salt. Stir well again. Gradually add the water, meanwhile whisking the mixture with a stick blender or hand mixer until it becomes very frothy. Continue until your ayran has the desired consistency. Add ice cubes and pour into large glasses.
