This app tells you when to drink your wine

The When Wine Tastes Best app tells you when the perfect moment has arrived to open that good bottle. A kind of horoscope, but for wine—we’re curious.

The app looks at the position of the moon, which has a great deal of influence on living things on Earth. Since wine is alive too, according to the app’s makers it should also respond to the moon’s cycle.
Fruit and flower days
The moon’s cycle determines what kind of day it is: a root, flower, leaf or fruit day. Fruit and flower days are good; on root and leaf days, it’s better to avoid wine if you want to get the best out of your bottle.
On good days, the app turns red and shows a full glass; on bad days, it remains very sadly empty. You can even see what time of day the best wine moment arrives.

Potential
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t touch wine during the less favourable moments. According to the theory behind the app, wine is at its best during good days. A test panel also enjoyed the same wine on a bad day, but on the right day the wine came into its own more and showed more character. If you still have a beautiful bottle lying around, it may be worth drinking it when the app is red.
Really?
There is also debate about bottles that are 4–5 years old. They might actually be better drunk on leaf days, while this would be bad for younger wines. So, a whole lot of speculation. Oh well, as soon as the glass turns red, we reach for our corkscrew. And actually at all other moments too.
You can download the When Wine Tastes Best app from the iTunes App Store. Unfortunately, it isn’t available for other phones yet.
