New Netflix series from the makers of Chef’s Table

Street Food

Have you already watched every episode of Chef’s Table twice? The makers of the show are now coming out with a brand-new series called Street Food, and we’re already stocking up on popcorn. Or perhaps satay or Vietnamese spring rolls?

Street Food takes viewers through nine Asian countries and shines the spotlight on leading chefs. Only these aren’t chefs who work in a luxury establishment, but in smaller restaurants, food stalls and food carts. Because let’s be honest: that’s where you always find the tastiest food.

It is not yet known exactly which chefs will be featured in the series. The first photo to appear shows Thailand’s Jay Fai. The female chef is already in her 70s, but still prepares her incredible crab omelet every day in Bangkok. Her street stall even received a Michelin star in 2017. You pay around ten euros for that omelet, making it one hell of a cheap star-worthy meal.

In Asia, it is not unusual to receive a Michelin star for incredibly cheap food. In Hong Kong, for example, you can find roasted goose and affordable dim sum with a star, while in Singapore you can get a star-rated plate of chicken with rice for less than €2. Whether all those restaurants will also appear in the series is unclear; all we can do is wait and see.

The entire season of Street Food will be available on Netflix from April 26.
