6 Foods That Never Go Bad

When you go on vacation, you might worry about all the food sitting at home and spoiling. At least you won’t have to stress about these six products, because they always stay good.

Soy sauce

Although the strong flavor of soy sauce, which we all love so much, will definitely deteriorate if you leave it in your pantry forever, it doesn’t spoil. There’s so much sodium in soy sauce that it’s practically impossible for bacteria to settle in and make themselves comfortable. So that best-before date on the bottle mainly applies to your taste buds.

Honey

Honey doesn’t spoil; it crystallizes. Or rather, the sugar in the honey crystallizes. You can keep it forever if you’re okay with that. Because honey contains very little moisture, bacteria get little to no chance to grow.

Sugar

Just like honey, but even more clearly, sugar contains no moisture. That’s also the only way to keep it good forever : don’t let moisture get near it.

Salt

Salt is a preservative in its own right, so you can store it for a long time too. As long as you keep it dry.

White rice

White rice once again proves itself to be the best variety. Brown and whole-grain rice can only be stored for about six months, while white rice lasts indefinitely. That’s because it’s more processed, so there’s simply less of what can spoil present in it (such as fatty acids).

Pure vanilla extract

It’s made with alcohol, so you can keep it forever. The flavor may become a little stronger, but is that really a problem…?
