Australian favorite: Tim Tam biscuits

Tim Tam biscuits by Arnott’s are hugely popular in Australia. Unfortunately, not here in the Netherlands. It’s high time we changed that!

The biscuits were originally created as a replacement for British Penguin biscuits. The classic Tim Tam biscuit contains a chocolate cream filling, but many flavors have since been added. There’s Salted Caramel and Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Double Coat and Chewy Caramel, for example.

Tim Tam Slam

The biscuit always consists of two biscuits with a cream filling between them and a layer of chocolate around them. A popular way to eat Tim Tams is the “Tim Tam Slam”. You bite off the ends of the biscuit and use it as a straw to suck up hot drinks, such as tea or coffee. When the biscuit becomes soft and the chocolate starts to melt, you eat it. Cultural heritage

In Australia, Tim Tams are more than just a biscuit; like our bitterbal, they are a cultural icon and a proud national product. Australians themselves eat around 400 million a year, and they certainly don’t use them only for a Tim Tam Slam. They also make lots of desserts and other sweet treats with the biscuits. From cheesecake to brownies (with salted caramel).

Unfortunately, the biscuits aren’t usually available on supermarket shelves here, but you can always find them online. You can get the most exotic varieties here, and different kinds can also be ordered here.
