Food trends we no longer want to see in 2019

These food trends were totally hip and happening in 2018, so let’s all happily leave them right there. Bring on 2019, happy new year!

Edible flowers
It’s not just power powders that add colour to our plates; edible flowers and other plant-based foods also create a creative picture. Unwanted as far as we’re concerned. Just put those flowers in a vase on the table. They’re tasteless and therefore useless, in our opinion.
Beetroot everywhere
We’ve also seen the pink latte machiatto far too many times. In recent years, it has become a trend to put beetroot in everything. You name it: from latte machiatto to beetroot carpaccio. It’s great that everyone is being environmentally conscious and taking nature into account, but we can also go overboard with all that beetroot.
Choc-krok
In November, it happened: an ultimate low point for our taste buds. The chocolate croquette a.k.a. choc-krok had arrived. It’s clear by now that they do things a little differently at Frietboutique, after the red velvet fries and patatje choco, but this takes the cake. What’s next? A frikandel with sweet whipped cream?
Goth food
Charcoal in your food is still a little upcoming, but the black ice creams and burgers are taking over the internet, and especially Instagram. Can someone tell us what’s so attractive about black food? We still simply associate it with burnt food.
Smoothie bowls
Just drink that smoothie. You’re only making things more difficult for yourself by trying to get such a thin juice from a bowl into your mouth with a spoon. Smoothies are meant to be drunk. If you add some quark and fruit, it’s still okay, but we’re skipping this trend.
