Hack: stripping thyme from the stem

Stripping fresh thyme from the stem is thankless and tedious work. We can’t say anything else. Fortunately, there’s a great tip that will make all your thyme troubles disappear.

The leaves of thyme look as though they’re attached so firmly that you can strip them from the stem in one simple movement, but nothing could be further from the truth. The leaves grow in exactly the wrong direction, meaning you can never properly take the top leaves with you, or you pull the sprig apart. Sound familiar? Frustration all around! Fortunately, the trick is very simple.
Through a sieve
The only thing you need is a fine sieve. Push the thyme stem through it from the top and pull it out again at the bottom. This leaves all the leaves in the sieve, ready to use.
