Oops, forgot to do the Christmas shopping?

Shit, suddenly it was Christmas! While everyone is stressed out planning a hundred Christmas dinners, you’ve completely forgotten that you were supposed to sort out the starter tonight. Or the dessert. Now what? You can still pick up these things at the supermarket today, and with minimal effort they’ll become a dish.

Cheese
Are you responsible for the starter? Cheese it is. Go for a creamy burrata; you don’t need to serve anything with it except perhaps some dressed rocket or a little lemon zest and olive oil. Or go for a whole selection and build the cheese board of your life. Thin crackers or good bread on the side, maybe some grapes, and you’re done. Either way, no pan is required, but your fellow diners are guaranteed to devour it.
Oeuf en cocotte
Tip an egg into a ramekin with some cream and perhaps a little cheese, and your oeuf en cocotte is a fact. Delicious with crispy fried bread for dipping into the dish. If you still have a little extra time, this dish is also delicious with mushroom and Gruyere, or tomato and goat cheese. If you have a truffle lying around, feel free to shave it over the top too.
Super-fast ice cream
Is dessert your job? Then hurry over to the freezer section for a good amount of frozen fruit. Toss it in the blender with Greek yoghurt; because the fruit is frozen, it immediately takes on the consistency of ice cream. Serve straight away or keep it in the freezer for a little longer. Those with a sweet tooth can add a spoonful of honey or some icing sugar.
One of my favourites when I’m craving something sweet and quick is ice cream with cookies. Ice cream: preferably with nuts, caramel or a combination of the two. Cookies: preferably with chocolate, Scholiertjes, for example, or chocolate digestives. Ice cream in a bowl, crumble cookies over it, and suddenly it looks like quite the dessert.
