The best hotspots in Arnhem

Flor Fina Arnhem

Arnhem: what a beautiful and fun city this is! Friendly people, beautiful surroundings and an incredible number of places where you can have a great lunch, drinks, dinner and stay overnight, including in a… church. Weekend in Arnhem: good idea!

These are the places you want to go in Arnhem

The Korenmarkt is the nightlife district in the centre of Arnhem. From the 16th century through to the 20th century, there was a great deal of trading here; grain in particular was in high demand. In the Korenkwartier, you can still see many of the old grain warehouses. There are more than 60 restaurants, cafés and pleasant outdoor terraces on and around the square. Plenty of choice, then, but there is much more happening in terms of hospitality beyond the Korenmarkt. These are our favourite places in Arnhem for every moment of the day – and for staying overnight. Because one day in Arnhem is not enough.

Arnhem, Korenmarkt
The Korenmarkt

Lunch, drinks & dinner: Flor Fina
Flor Fina is located in the old Korenbeurs right in the middle of the Korenmarkt and wow, what a place this is! Trays of coffee, green salads and generously topped sandwiches fly around your ears. This mega hospitality venue has two floors, three kitchens and a distinctive interior with turquoise-painted walls, industrial brick walls and a pinchos and seafood bar where you can enjoy Spanish delicacies, oysters and fruits de mer. Downstairs, you will also find a central bar surrounded by velvet bar stools, intimate seating areas and large plants. The large open kitchen and a wine bar are upstairs. This is truly a unique place and one you really should visit. Whether you have a business meeting, are out with friends or are taking a moment for yourself, you will find it all at Flor Fina.

Drinks & dinner: Mejuffrouw Janssen
Would you rather avoid the busier terraces on the Korenmarkt? Then find a spot in one of the side streets between the Korenmarkt and the shopping streets, such as the pleasant Duizelsteeg or Pauwstraat. This is also where you will find the Burgundy-style restaurant Mejuffrouw Janssen. All the (French) dishes that come out of the kitchen here are made in-house using fresh, artisanal products. Tip: go for the mussels; people come back for them. A cosy café atmosphere and a great price.

Lunch, drinks & dinner: Café Eijck
At the beginning of 2023, Café Eijck opened in a beautiful corner building in Arnhem that was formerly home to BABO. It is a café where you can also eat very well and where you are welcome all day: from coffee to lunch, and from drinks to dinner and into the later hours. The relaxed atmosphere ensures that people stay for a long time at weekends. It is the neighbourhood living room, where the beers are expertly poured, the food is well served and the menu is carefully put together. Café Eijck therefore deservedly received an Entree Award in the Best New Café category.

Lunch, drinks & dinner: Momento
‘Sit back and relax’. That is the feeling they want to give you when you step into Momento in the centre of Arnhem. In the beautiful architectural building Rozet on the old Oeverstraat, they serve not only tasty salads and good sandwiches (hello, toasted Turkish bread with porchetta, cheddar and rocket!). If you have a sweet tooth, you are also in the right place here: for example, they have chocolate cake with caramel filling and roasted peanuts, and blood orange cake with Campari and vanilla mascarpone. The large terrace will reopen from May. And, importantly: they serve delicious coffee.

Lunch, drinks & dinner: Brasserie de Boerderij
For years, Brasserie De Boerderij has been a favourite among many residents of Arnhem. You can eat very well here in a prime location: in Sonsbeek Park, just a stone’s throw from Arnhem city centre. The terrace is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands; it is no wonder you regularly see a bride walking past here.

Vegan hotspot: Konijnenvoer
I already think Konijnenvoer is a fantastic restaurant simply because of its name. I love self-deprecation, especially when you can get away with it. Konijnenvoer has two locations. At De Chique Zaak, you can eat fully vegan food at a truly high level. At Konijnenvoer Trattoria 89, you can enjoy delicious Italian dishes (not only vegan).

Lunch: Sugar Hill
Life is sweeter on the hill. In the middle of the day, you can while away a few relaxed hours at Sugar Hill. Fresh sandwiches with homemade sweets or a substantial lunch with entrecôte. Just make sure you still have room for something sweet. The Sugar Hill Bakery is only a short distance away.

Drinks: Café Verheyden
Hidden in an alley behind the busy shopping streets is a monumental warehouse with a walled city garden. You will not want to leave. If you are still full from lunch, you can also enjoy drinks at Café Verheyden. And an oyster always slips down nicely, of course. If you come on ‘oyster Wednesday’, ask for the delicious oyster platter.

Drinks, dinner and accommodation: Hotel Haarhuis
You can do it all at the completely renovated Hotel Haarhuis in Arnhem. This hotel opposite Arnhem Central Station recently celebrated its 100 th anniversary, and the hotel was completely renovated to mark the occasion. A number of new suites and a wellness area have been added to the hotel, and last year BLOU also opened: Arnhem’s rooftop bar with – believe me – the most exciting toilet in the country. LOCALS, the restaurant at Hotel Haarhuis, is truly a green oasis in the city centre. The name is no coincidence: on the one hand, the restaurant is not only for hotel guests but also for residents of Arnhem. In addition, they work with local products as much as possible.

Dinner: Iveau – Burgers & wine bar
Fast food prepared like slow food, using fresh and local products. That can only be a good thing. At Iveau you get truly special burgers with matching wines. Iveau Burgers & Wijnbar previously won the title of ‘Best Hamburger in the Netherlands’, and during the fourth edition of Best Burger Benelux at MECC Maastricht, Iveau Burgers & Wijnbar’s creation was even crowned ‘Best Burger in the Benelux 2023’!

Eating, sleeping, lounging and partying: The Church
Staying overnight in a church is always special. Earlier this year (2023), Hotel en Restaurant The Curch opened in the former Lutheran church building, hidden right in the centre of Arnhem. The location – the church that formerly housed restaurant and hotel Bizar-Bazar – is absolutely special. The ground floor has been transformed into a fine-dining restaurant where you can also enjoy drinks. The kitchen focuses mainly on fish, crustaceans and shellfish, and you can finish with a cheese board. Eye-catchers include the large open kitchen, where guests can sit around it, and the striking street art by RoosArt. At The Church, you can eat, lounge, party and sleep. The hotel rooms float right through the middle of the church. Remarkable!

Accommodation: Hotel Modez
For foodies with a beating heart for fashion. In Arnhem’s Klarendal district, bordering the north-eastern side of the city centre, lies the Modekwartier. Here you will find many ateliers and shops interspersed with houses in a typical working-class neighbourhood. Hotel Modez is also located in Arnhem’s fashion district: a unique boutique hotel decorated by various Dutch fashion designers. Hotel Modez is surrounded by great hospitality venues, and CASPAR is located in the same building. With a menu full of speciality beers (twelve of which are on tap), you can enjoy drinks here well into the late hours.
