It can be quite exciting if it’s unfamiliar territory for you, but our guide will help you navigate the complicated web of a toko. Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can spend hours there looking at everything there is to see.

Amazing Oriental

This supermarket is the emperor among the large toko’s. They have branches throughout the Randstad, as well as in Nijmegen and Groningen, for example. Eindhoven, Maastricht, Breda, Almere and Arnhem also have their own branch. Fun fact: You can view all the stores from the inside using Street View.

Tjin’s

In Tjin’s in Amsterdam, there’s a good chance you’ll run into our Emma at some point. As well as checking off all the groceries on your Asian shopping list, you can come here when you’re in an American or Mexican mood. You can also pick up takeaway dishes, which are mainly Indonesian. So you’re in the right place for a delicious lemper or pasteitje.

Toko Goedendag

This one in Utrecht can cater to all your Asian cravings. It’s not very big, but it’s right in the city center, with delicious products and staff who are happy to point you in the right direction.

Wah Nam Hong

This is one of the larger, modern toko’s in the Netherlands, with branches in the center of The Hague and two in central Rotterdam. They have plenty of Chinese products here, as well as many from other Asian cuisines. The branch in Rotterdam’s Markthal is by far the nicest: well-organized and with a wide selection.

Toko Tjiau Jiang

This one has a small branch in central Utrecht near the station and a larger store a little farther outside the city center. Their range mainly consists of Chinese products, and when you arrive at the larger store, there’s an aquarium where you can choose fresh fish.

Tjiau Jiang has no website. The small branch is at Achter Clarenbrug 55, and the large store is at Croeselaan 199-203.

Amazing Sang Lee

In Eindhoven, you can visit this, as they call it themselves, ‘superstore’. They focus mainly on Indonesian, Surinamese and Thai cuisine. This place is partly an extra-large toko and partly an exotic snack bar. From groups of ten people onward, you can take workshops in the cooking studio at the back of the store.
